Heroes’ square lies at the end of Andrássy avenue, the “Champs-Élysées” of Budapest. A huge memorial stands in the middle of the square overlooking the avenue. It is the Millennial Memorial commemorating 1000 years of statehood of Hungary erected in 1896. The statue of King Matthias stands in the gallery of kings between two pillars of the memorial.
