Heroes’ square lies at the end of Andrássy avenue, the “Champs-Élysées” of Budapest. A huge memorial stands in the middle of the square overlooking the avenue. It is the Millennial Memorial commemorating 1000 years of statehood erected in 1896. The statue of Mars on his chariot stands on the western end pillar of the memorial symbolising victory over fate.
